Focused Power. Better Dose.

Why We Focus On 660nm + 850nm

More wavelengths can sound impressive — but when LED output is split across too many wavelengths, less power is available where it matters most: 660nm Red and 850nm Near Infrared.

50% of output at 660nm
50% of output at 850nm

Up to ~3x more output at 660nm
and ~4x more output at 850nm

More output where it matters. More effective results.

The result: stronger output at the wavelengths most people use for skin, recovery, joints and targeted treatment.
Get your dose in 10 minutes, not 40 — without wasting time waiting for a diluted panel to do its job.
Why 660nm and 850nm?

660nm red light is commonly used for skin, collagen support and surface-level tissue repair. 850nm near infrared penetrates deeper, making it useful for muscles, joints, tendons and recovery.

Doesn’t more wavelengths mean better results?

Not really. LEDs don’t emit one razor-thin line of light — they naturally produce a small band around their peak wavelength. So a quality 660nm or 850nm chip already delivers light into the surrounding red and near-infrared range. Adding more wavelengths doesn’t automatically mean better results; it often just spreads the panel’s available output across more channels, leaving less power concentrated at the core wavelengths doing the heavy lifting.

Why are we phasing out multi-wavelength panels?

After testing different wavelength combinations, we chose to simplify our core range around 660nm and 850nm. Better dose, better benefits, simpler design.

HELPFUL INFORMATION

Common Questions About Red Light Therapy

How does red light therapy work?

Red light therapy, also known as photobiomodulation, uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to support your body’s natural cellular processes.

Our panels use red light at 660nm and near-infrared light at 850nm. These wavelengths are widely used for skin health, circulation, muscle recovery, joint comfort and cellular energy support.

Unlike UV light, red and near-infrared light do not tan or burn the skin. It is a non-invasive way to bring clinical-style light therapy into your home.

View red light therapy clinical studies
What’s the difference between red light and near-infrared light?

Red light at 660nm is visible to the eye and is commonly used for surface-level applications such as skin health, collagen support, circulation and recovery.

Near-infrared light at 850nm is invisible to the human eye and is commonly used for deeper areas such as muscles, joints and deeper tissue support.

Our panels combine both wavelengths so you can receive the benefits of red and near-infrared light in the same session.

Which red light therapy device should I choose?

The best choice comes down to the area you would like to treat and how much coverage you want in each session.

Choose a face mask for hands-free facial skincare sessions, or the RecoveryBelt, MiniPro or PowerPro for targeted use on joints, smaller muscles and specific areas.

Choose a ProX panel if you want greater coverage for areas such as the back, shoulders, legs and torso. Larger panels are ideal if you want to treat more of the body at once or build a full-body setup at home.

Compare our red light therapy devices
How long and how often should I use red light therapy?

A simple starting point is 10-minute sessions, around 3–5 times per week. You can gradually increase your session time if it feels comfortable for you.

Most people use their panel for around 10–20 minutes per session. There is no need to overdo it — consistency over time is generally more useful than very long sessions.

We recommend not exceeding 20 minutes on the same area in one session. Always follow the instructions supplied with your specific device and speak with a health professional if you have a medical condition or are unsure whether red light therapy is right for you.

How close should I sit or stand to my red light panel?

For most sessions, start around 15–30cm away from the panel. This gives you strong light intensity while remaining comfortable.

For smaller muscles, joints or deeper targeted areas, you may prefer to sit closer. For a larger treatment area, step back a little further so the light covers more of your body.

You should feel comfortable during your session. A gentle warmth is normal, but the light should never feel uncomfortably hot or irritating.

Why can’t I see the near-infrared light?

Near-infrared light sits outside the visible spectrum, which means you cannot see the 850nm LEDs with the naked eye.

This is completely normal. When both red and near-infrared modes are operating, you will mainly see the visible red LEDs even though the near-infrared LEDs are working at the same time.

Do I need to wear eye protection?

Red and near-infrared light do not contain harmful UV rays, but red light panels can feel very bright — especially when used close to the face.

Protective goggles are included with our panels so you can use them for extra comfort and peace of mind. You may also simply close your eyes during a facial session if that feels more comfortable.

If you have an eye condition, are taking light-sensitive medication or have any concerns, check with your optometrist or health professional first.

Are Urban Hippee red light therapy panels safe?

Our red light therapy panels are designed for safe at-home use and use high-output LEDs, low-EMF design and zero-flicker technology.

Our panels are EESS certified, meaning they meet the relevant Australian and New Zealand electrical equipment safety requirements.

As with any electrical wellness device, use your panel as directed and do not use it if the power cord, plug or device has been damaged.

What is pulse mode?

Pulse mode switches the light on and off rapidly at a selected frequency, rather than delivering completely continuous light.

Some people prefer using pulse mode as part of their recovery routine, particularly after exercise. It is an optional setting — you can still receive an effective red light therapy session using standard continuous mode.

Pulse settings vary by panel model, so check your product manual for the options available on your device.

Hi – I bought a Mini Pro Red/Infrared device after the recommendation from a Nurse colleague – and it just happened to be on sale also at the time! It arrived so quickly (about a day later from ordering), and I was able to begin using it immediately for rehab on a badly bruised/sprained knee. I have had knee injuries before (unfortunate sporting injuries etc), but the recovery this time was very quick, which meant I could move on from crutches and begin to weight bear sooner than expected. My treating Osteopath was impressed at my recovery and has recommended it to others now also. The back up sales/warranty support has been excellent post a minor issue with the on/off button, with a replacement unit sent the next day so I could continue treating my knee injury. I have been incredibly impressed with the service, support and the positive benefits of the MiniPro – and with greater mobility sooner than expected, I am very happy! Thanks so much, Jen 🙂

I absolutely love the red light pro Plus, it is sturdy and well made. Easy to unbox and use. I experienced instant pain relief of tendinitis of my elbow and pain in lower back. I should have purchased one months ago when I first injured myself! Service from Urban Hippee is top notch. Thank you Eli for all your support.
