No. We don’t recommend using mattress protectors, thick toppers or padded underlays between your body and the grounding product, as they can create too much interference and reduce conductivity.

Yes. Our Premium Grounding Underlay is designed to sit under your normal bed sheet — fitted or flat — so you don’t need to sleep directly on the conductive material.
For best results, avoid placing thick waterproof mattress protectors or heavy padded layers between you and the underlay, as these may reduce conductivity.
Yes. You can still wear PJs.
Direct skin contact isn’t needed. Your body can build up voltage from nearby electrical appliances and wiring, which can be tested with a multimeter. The underlay connects you back to earth through your sheet and light sleepwear, helping discharge that buildup while you sleep.
What’s the difference between Premium Underlay Sheets, Earthing Bed Mats and Fitted Earthing Sheets?
Premium Grounding Underlay Sheets
Used under your normal bed sheet. They don’t require direct skin contact and only need washing every 4-6 months.
Cotton/Silver Fitted Grounding Sheets
Used like a normal fitted sheet and require direct skin contact. These can be machine washed as needed.
Black Premium Grounding Bed Mats
Used with a normal bed sheet over the top. If cleaning is needed, simply wipe down with a non-abrasive cloth.
All three options can effectively ground the body. The main differences are the material, feel, setup and cleaning method.
Stainless steel (316) is medical grade and can handle regular exposure to corrosive elements, making it our most durable earthing product.
Machine wash every 4–6 months on a cold or warm delicate cycle with mild liquid detergent. Line dry only. Avoid bleach, fabric softeners, whitening detergents, oils, tumble drying or high heat.
Yes, all power boards, double adapters and extension cords are all designed to connect to the earth outlet.
No — it’s impossible for the earthing sheet to conduct electricity when it’s only connected to the earth pin of your power outlet. The power point doesn’t need to be switched on for it to work. The top two pins of the plug are plastic (non-functional), and only the single bottom pin connects to the earth, which safely grounds the sheet.
Australian homes are required to be earthed for safety, but a multimeter is an easy way to check that your grounding product is working correctly.
Unlike basic continuity testers that only show a green light, a multimeter can show the voltage in your body reducing when you are grounded.

Need a larger fit?
The sheet can also be rotated sideways for wider beds.
A Queen underlay can fit a King mattress by turning it sideways, so the 203cm length runs across the width of the bed.
A King underlay can fit a Super King mattress the same way.
This covers the main sleeping area of the body and only leaves the pillow area uncovered, which is fine because your body is still resting over the conductive section.

I wanted to share my experience after purchasing one of your grounding sheets in November 2025.
In 2017, I suffered a stress fracture in my right foot. After coming out of a moon boot, I was left with ongoing balance issues and persistent pain in my hip and groin on the opposite side. Over the years, I tried a range of treatments including osteopathy, physiotherapy, dry needling, and a cortisone injection, but none provided a lasting solution.
By late 2025, I had developed a constant limp. After reading about grounding sheets, I decided to give one a try. To my surprise, after the first night of use, I noticed a significant improvement — the pain had eased, and I was no longer limping.
I am a senior and an active lawn bowler, and the change was quickly noticed by others at my club. Naturally, I was asked what I had done differently. While there was some initial skepticism, many were interested given the relatively low cost compared to other treatments I had pursued.
Since then, five other bowlers from our club have purchased grounding sheets from Urban Hippies. All have reported positive outcomes, particularly with improved sleep and reduced aches and pains.
I understand this is my personal experience, but for me, the results have been remarkable and well worth the investment.

Easy to order and a quick arrival. I had one question I emailed and Urban Hippee responded efficiently.
I am usually awake after two hours to go to the toilet, slept five straight last night after five nights on the underlay. When I wake during the night I am going back to sleep more quickly. I previously had a grounding fitted sheet which was cotton and silver, a bit rough and I did not realise that the endless washing damages the silver and effects its ability to ground. The bonus mat (a wonderful extra) is in a pillow slip, and my cats are grounding during the day too. I am very happy.

The KS is a fantastic fit on the bed and the stainless steel upgrade proved its worth on the first night. We both slept better and my arthritic pain in hands has diminished.
