The spectrometer loads it’s readings in 4 second intervals.
about blue light
How Blue Light Glasses Can Benefit You
Ever find yourself endlessly scrolling your phone before bed? There’s a scientific reason why it can make falling asleep more difficult.
Blue light helps keep us alert during the day by stimulating the brain and supporting our natural wake cycle. However, too much blue light after sunset—especially from phones, computers, TVs and modern LED lighting—can disrupt your body’s natural sleep rhythm.
This is where blue light glasses can help. By reducing evening blue light exposure, they support your body’s natural melatonin production, helping you relax and prepare for a more restful night’s sleep.
What Is Blue Light?
Blue light is a high-energy visible (HEV) light with wavelengths of approximately 400–490 nanometres. Extended exposure from digital devices and LED lighting may contribute to eye strain, headaches, digital fatigue and sleep disruption.
Research has shown that blue light around 460 nanometres is particularly effective at suppressing melatonin—the hormone that helps regulate your body’s natural sleep-wake cycle.
Not All Blue Light Is Bad
It’s important to remember that blue light from the sun is essential. Natural daylight helps regulate your circadian rhythm, improves alertness, supports cognitive function and keeps you feeling awake during the day.
The goal isn’t to avoid blue light altogether—it’s to reduce unnecessary blue light exposure after dark, when your body is naturally preparing for sleep.

There is a unit called the abbe value which refers to optical clarity, the higher value the more clarity of the lens. Most cheaper anti blue light glasses on the market have a very reflective blue coating and are made with PC (Polycarbonate) which are rated as the lowest optical clarity of lens material available. Below are the differences in value –
CR-39 – 58
PC (Polycarbonate) – 30
Urban Hippee’s CR-39 lens have anti reflective coating and have almost double the clarity of others available on the market. They have been tested to block up to 100% harmful blue light from 400nm to 550nm.
We designed fit-over sleep glasses that can work with most reading glasses. They simply go over the top of your reading glasses. We only have amber lens available for this style. Click here to view the fitover blue light glasses.
Put on your red or amber colored lens glasses. If the blue circle color turns black, this will indicate that your glasses are effectively filtering all blue light.

This test will not work for our daytime glasses.
- Daytime Clear Lens (30% Blue Light Filtering):
Wear these throughout the day while working on screens, indoors, or under artificial lighting. They’re ideal for reducing eye strain during daylight hours without significantly impacting your alertness or circadian rhythm. - Daytime Yellow Lens (70% Blue Light Filtering):
Use these lenses during the day for more intense screen time or in bright environments. They’re best for prolonged screen work, especially if you’re prone to eye fatigue or discomfort from digital devices. - Night-time Amber Lens (99% Blue Light Filtering):
These should be worn 2-3 hours before bed to reduce blue light exposure, which can interfere with melatonin production and disrupt sleep. Use them in the evening while watching TV, using a computer, or checking your phone, to help prepare your body for sleep. - Night-time Red Lens (100% Blue & Green Light Filtering):
For maximum sleep support, wear these 2-3 hours before bed to completely block blue and green light. These lenses are ideal for night-time screen use or exposure to artificial lighting before sleep. They fully protect your sleep cycle, helping you wind down effectively.
Wearing the right glasses at the right time ensures better eye health and promotes restful sleep.
